Simple Machines Grades 4 – 6

A nice, simple presentation which follows the scientific method (question, predict, process, observe, conclude) through a series of experiments which explore the nature and function of simple machines. Each simple machine is presented in definition and illustration, followed by activities and experiments which young children can perform. Procedures are written and illustrated and a log sheet for recording the results of each experiment is provided. Blanks are marked “I wonder:” “I think:” “I will:” “I saw:” and “I learned:”. The concept of compound machines is also covered in a lesson following the study of each simple machine. Additional reproducible pages include worksheets, logs, and graphic organizers that you can use as desired.
