Teachers should be aware that while students at this grade level are quite comfortable playing and chatting with their friends, they have not developed the flair for speaking in front of the same people. Help the students see that they are not alone in feeling uncomfortable when addressing an audience, and that this unit will help them write better speeches and prepare for presentations.

Writing a speech or presentation is just as important as delivering it. For this reason, many of the student activities in this unit involve the writing process, which students are already familiar with.
