This time in the Learning Commons:

January is off to a strong start, with engaging opportunities to support reading, research, and learning across our community. From the upcoming Living Books Book Fair and winter curriculum deals to Read for Change, new resources, and student events, there’s much to look forward to in the weeks ahead.

Announcements & Reminders

  • The Flex PAC is hosting the Living Books Book Fair to help place high-quality, faith-based books into the hands of our students while supporting the Learning Commons, and we are inviting both the Flex and HCOS communities to participate. Shop in person from February 11–13 or online using the promo code for free shipping, with all online orders shipped directly to the school; details are available at www.flexacademypac.ca/bookfair.
  • The Winter Sale in the used curriculum shop ends January 23rd! Check out the amazing deals!

Resource Updates & Tips

  • Our Read for Change is in full swing! Your go-to place for ebooks and audiobooks is here on the landing page of Sora. Current circulations for this month are over 1700 titles. Keep reading, students, for this inspiring challenge!
  • We’ve added 45 new Lamplighter books to the collection—rare, richly written stories that bring a biblical worldview to life through memorable characters. With more complex English, these titles are a great fit for Grades 5 and up. You will find them in the New Titles section of the Search Portal Home page.

Student Highlights & Contests

  • A Bedtime StoryTime (Kindergarten – Gr. 4) is free for all HCOS students on February 3, 2025, at 10 am. Learn more and register here.
  • Now is the time to work on your research projects! Check out our Research pages for templates to help support you in the process. If you would like one-on-one support with using our school research databases, please reach out to Pippa Davies, who can guide you through the process.

Blessings from the Learning Commons Team
