Math First Peoples – Teacher Resource Guide (2020)

The Math First Peoples Teacher Resource Guide (2020) is a BC-focused resource developed by FNESC, with support from the Ministry of Education, to help teachers make mathematics more inclusive and engaging, with the goal of improving student success.

It emphasizes that teaching about First Peoples should be grounded in authentic knowledge from Elders, educators, and community experts, and guided by input from First Nations and Métis leaders. It also recognizes the great diversity among First Peoples’ cultures in British Columbia.

The 2020 revision aligns with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action by encouraging the integration of Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods into classrooms, and by promoting students’ intercultural understanding, empathy, and respect.
