Resource Highlight - Novel Studies

There are 75 novel studies, available in the Search Portal. Twenty of the studies are packs which contain both the book and study guide. The guide includes comprehension questions which deepen the understanding of the themes and characters. Vocabulary exercises and activities are also included to engage the student. Novel Studies are a great way to supplement language arts!

The novels in the HIP Jr. series have been carefully designed for a specific student - the reluctant reader in grades 4 to 6 who is reading at a grade 2 level. They have high-action plots with dynamic writing which hooks readers and keeps them interested. The Teachers' guide contains chapter lessons, literature circle role cards and more.

Through Suzanne Collin's enthralling and harrowing tale of survival and fighting for what is right in Hunger Games, students will cover: author biography, before-you-read activities, moral lessons and character values, and vocabulary exercises.

This guide contains ideas for helping to bring the stories alive, engaging children in a variety of language activities using their reading to reflect on their own experiences and those of friends to create opportunities for kids to understand that reading is not something to be dreaded and tested on, but instead a lifelong source of pleasure and discovery.
